Portulaca grandiflora commonly known as moss rose or purslane is a flowering succulent plant native to South America. It is a popular garden plant because of its attractive and colorful flowers that bloom in shades of pink red orange yellow and white and its ability to tolerate drought and heat. 
The plant grows up to 15 cm tall and has small fleshy cylindrical leaves arranged around the stem. The flowers are single or double and have five petals that can be either smooth or fringed. They bloom from summer to autumn and are followed by small cone-shaped seed capsules.
