Monstera deliciosa also known as the Swiss cheese plant is a species of flowering plant native to tropical forests of southern Mexico and Central America. It is a popular houseplant due to its striking foliage and the ease of growth. 
The plant features large glossy heart-shaped leaves that are deeply lobed and perforated hence the common name "Swiss cheese plant." The holes and splits in the leaves are not only an attractive feature but also serve a functional purpose of allowing the plant to tolerate high winds and heavy rains in its native habitat.
