The areca palm (Dypsis lutescens also known as the golden cane palm is a popular indoor and outdoor plant that is native to Madagascar and South India. It is a clumping palm that grows up to 6 to 12 meters (20 to 39 feet) tall in the wild but as an indoor plant it usually grows up to 1.5 to 2 meters (5 to 6.5 feet) tall.
The areca palm has a feathery frond with many narrow leaves that are light green to yellowish-green in color and can grow up to 2 meters (6.5 feet) long. The plant also produces small yellow flowers that grow in clusters and turn into small bright orange to red fruits that are about 1 cm (0.4 inches) in diameter.
